Isaiah the Prophet Has Written of Old

Author: Joy F. Patterson, 1931- Meter: 11.8.11.8 D Appears in 14 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 65:25 Lyrics: 1 Isaiah the prophet has written of old how God's new creation shall come. Instead of the thorn tree, the fir tree shall grow; the wolf shall lie down with the lamb. The mountains and hills shall break forth into song, the peoples be led forth in peace, for the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of God as the waters cover the seas. 2 Yet nations still prey on the meek of the world, and conflict turns parent from child. Your people despoil all the sweetness of earth, the brier and the thorn tree grow wild. God, bring to fruition your will for the earth, that no one shall hurt or destroy, when wisdom and justice shall reign in the land and your people shall go forth in joy. Used With Tune: SAMANTHRA

O Day of Peace

Author: Carl P. Daw, Jr. Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 22 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 65:25 First Line: O day of peace that dimly shines Lyrics: 1 O day of peace that dimly shines Through all our hopes and prayers and dreams, Guide us to justice, truth, and love, Delivered from our selfish schemes. May swords of hate fall from our hands, Our hearts from envy find release, Till by God's grace our warring world Shall see Christ's promised reign of peace. 2 Then shall the wolf dwell with the lamb, Nor shall the fierce devour the small; As beasts and cattle calmly graze, A little child shall lead them all. Then enemies shall learn to love, All creatures find their true accord; The hope of peace shall be fulfilled, For all the earth shall know the Lord. Used With Tune: JERUSALEM

Lord, Bring the Day to Pass

Author: Ian Fraser Meter: 6.6.6.6.8.8 Appears in 10 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 65:17 Lyrics: 1 Lord, bring the day to pass when forest, rock and hill, the beasts, the birds, the grass will know your finished will: when we attain our destiny, and nature its lost unity. 2 Forgive our careless use of water, ore, and soil-- the plenty we abuse, supplied by others' toil: save us from making self our creed: turn us towards each other's need. 3 Give us, when we release creation's secret powers, to harness them for peace, our children's peace and ours: teach us the art of mastering which makes life rich and draws death's sting. 4 Creation groans, travails; futile its present plight, bound till the hour it hails the newfound heirs of light who enter on their true estate. Come, Lord! new heav'ns and earth create! Topics: In The Beginning The Earth is the Lord's Used With Tune: CAMANO
