O Christ, the Healer

Author: Fred Pratt Green (1903-) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 37 hymnals Scripture: Mark 7:24-37 First Line: O Christ, the healer, we have come Lyrics: 1 O Christ, the healer, we have come to pray for health, to plead for friends. How can we fail to be restored, when reached by love that never ends? 2 From every ailment flesh endures our bodies clamour to be freed; yet in our hearts we would confess that wholeness is our deepest need. 3 How strong, O Lord, are our desires, how weak our knowledge of ourselves! Release in us those healing truths unconscious pride resists or shelves. 4 In conflicts that destroy our health we diagnose the world's disease; our common life declares our ills: is there no cure, O Christ, for these? 5 Grant that we all, made one in faith, in your community may find the wholeness that, enriching us, shall reach the whole of humankind. Praise the One who frees the prisoners, turning blindness into sight. Praise the One who preached the gospel, healing every dread disease, calming storms and feeding thousands with the very bread of peace. 2 Praise the One who blessed the children with a strong yet gentle word. Praise the One who drove out demons with a piercing two edged sword. Praise the one who brings cool water to the desert's burning sand. From this well comes living water quenching thirst in every land. 3 Praise the one true love incarnate: Christ who suffered in our place. Jesus died and rose for many that we may know God by grace. Let us sing for joy and gladness, seeing what our God has done. Praise the one redeeming glory; praise the One who makes us one. Used With Tune: NETTLETON
