I stood alone one day;
My soul was burdened with a guilt
No tears could wash away.

Refrain:
Love, mighty and wonderful,
Love, boundless and free,
Love that suffered upon the cross,
The love that died for me.

2 In grief and pain I wept aloud,
In helpless agony;
When from the cross I heard One speak,
I gave My life for thee. [Refrain]

3 That voice, so sweet, entranced my soul,
It gave me hope and cheer;
Tho’ trembling, I drew near the cross,
For I had naught to fear. [Refrain]

4 And there upon that cruel cross
My Savior died that day;
I looked, believed, and from my soul,
The burden rolled away. [Refrain]
