On Baptism

Before the world I now will own

Representative Text

1 Before the world I now will own,
My blessed Lord and king,
Go down the banks as he hath done,
And be baptis'd like him.

2 I from the water wish to rise,
And look to him above;
Receive a blessing from the skies,
The blessing of his love.

3 Then we will join our notes to sing,
The wonders he hath done;
Jesus our sov'reign Lord and king,
Was once baptis'd by John.

4 And if we will believe hs word,
And be baptis'd like him,
The blood of our ascended Lord,
Will save our souls from sin.

5 Hosanna to his blessed name,
Come spread the echo round,
To endless years he is the same,
With joy repeat the sound.

6 We wish to join the blessed throng
That sings around the throne,
Begin the new and living song,
Grace, grace and grace alone.
