Representative Text

1 Cast away the works of darkness,
Haste to gird your armor on,
Ere the noon hath lost its brightness,
And the evening is begun.

Refrain:
Cast away the works of night,
Walk as children of the light;
Cast away the works of darkness,
Walk as children of the light.

2 Cast away the works of darkness,
Light is dawning from on high;
Christ the Daystar shines above you,
Drives the shadows from the sky. [Refrain]

3 Cast away the works of darkness,
Ere your fleeting breath hath fled;
For again the Lord is coming,
Judge alike of quick and dead. [Refrain]
