Representative Text

1 Christ within, the hope of glory,
Living, reigning in my soul,
Since my life is fully yielded,
Since my life is fully yielded,
Unto His divine control.

Chorus:
Christ within! who can conceive it?
Christ within! I dare believe it;
Where shall I His praise begin?
I have Christ enthroned within.

2 Now His blessed presence fills me!
‘Tis no longer I, but He;
Blessed Fountain-head whence springeth,
Blessed Fountain-head whence springeth,
Streams of love and purity. [Chorus]

3 Human lips could ne’er be telling,
half the charms of love divine,
All my doubts and fears dispelling,
All my doubts and fears dispelling,
Since this heav’nly Guest is mine. [Chorus]

4 Christ within! oh, hear it brother,
And the door throw open wide;
If you’ll bid the Savior welcome,
If you’ll bid the Savior welcome,
He will in your heart abide. [Chorus]

Lelia (Mrs. C.H.) Morris (1862-1929) was born in Pennsville, Morgan County, Ohio. Morris were active in the Methodist Episcopal Church and at the camp meetings in Sebring and Mt. Vernon. She wrote hymns as she did her housework. Although she became blind at age 52 she continued to write hymns on a 28-foot long blackboard that her family had built for her.
