Representative Text

1 Christian, learn this lesson:
Thro’ the darkest night,
Look beyond the shadows,
And face t’ward the light!

Chorus:
Facing t’ward the light,
Guarded by his might,
Step by step go onward,
Facing t’ward the light!

2 In the time of trouble,
Walk by faith, not sight,
In the days of sadness,
Just face t’ward the light! [Chorus]

3 Hold God’s hand, take courage!
Stars shine in the night,
You can never stumble,
Facing t’ward the light! [Chorus]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
