Jesus Calls

Come, ye weary sinners, oppressed

Author: Decourcy
Tune: [Come, ye weary sinners, oppressed]
Published in 43 hymnals

Representative Text

1 Come, ye weary souls oppress'd,
Find in Christ the promised rest;
On him all your burden roll,
He can wound, and he make whole.

2 Ye who dread the wrath of God,
Come and wash in Jesus' blood;
To the Son of David cry,
In his word he's passing by.

3 Naked, guilty, poor, and blind,
All your wants in Jesus find;
This the day of mercy is,
Now accept the proffer'd bliss.

After some time, through Lady Huntingdon's influence, he obtained Priest's Orders from the Bishop of Lichfield. In 1770 he became Curate of Shawbury, Salop, and in 1774 Vicar of St. Alkmond's, Shrewsbury. The latter he retained to his death in 1803.
