1 Coming—we are coming! see our glad banners wave!
We are little soldiers, strong and true and ever brave,
Marching sure and steady, with a strong, righteous hand,
Ever we obey our Saviour’s blessed command.

We are coming, coming! safely we are led!
Jesus leads the way! marching day by day,
We will follow, follow, in His footsteps tread!
We will follow Jesus and His word obey!

2 Fling on high our banner! keep its folds wide unfurled!
Let us with rejoicing, sing a song to all the world,
Sing in happy chorus! make the loud echoes ring!
Sing the name of Jesus, our Redeemer King. [Refrain]

3 Merry, merry soldiers, sing a joyful refrain
Of the blessed sunshine after long and dreary rain;

Carrie Ellis Breck was born 22 January 1855 in Vermont and raised in a Christian home. She later moved to Vineland, New Jersey, and then to Portland, Oregon. She wrote verse and prose for religious and household publications, In 1884 she married Frank A. Breck. She has written between fourteen and fifteen hundred hymns.
