1 Der staar en Mand og takker Gud,
At han er ei som andre,
At han i alle Lovens Bud
Kan ret og rigtig vandre,
Han drister paa sin egen Dyd;
Den Daarskab, Herre Jesus, bryd!
At vi for dig i Bønne-Stund
De skyldig' Pund
Maa mindes ret af Hjertens Grund!

2 Men Tolderen, som knapt sin Fod
Tør i Guds Temple sætte,
Han for sig selv langt borte stod,
Gik med sig selv i Rette,
Og brast med Sorg i sukke ud:
O, vær mig Synder naadig, Gud!
Hans Bod var sand, hans Længsel stor,
Han Naaden tror,
Og Gud til Hjerte gik hans Ord.

3 Thi Kristus siger, denne Mand,
Som syntes saa uværdig,
Hso Gud i Himlen Naade fandt,
Og han gik hjem refærdig.
O Gud, lær os at bede saa,
At vi og kan din Naade faa,
Og saa gaa hjem med Synd forladt,
Og Dag og Nat
Velsigne dig, vort Hjertes Skat!
