Hymnary Friends,

Please pardon this brief interruption, and please consider a gift today to support the work of Hymnary.org. Here's why.

Each month half a million people visit this website for free access to the most complete database of North American hymnody on the planet. But this project does not come without a cost, and we have limited sources of revenue. Twice a year we hold a fund drive, and these drives are critical to our future.

So if you benefit from Hymnary.org, would you consider a donation today? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

Click the Donate button below to be taken to a secure giving site. Or you can make your tax-deductible contribution by sending a check to Hymnary.org at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

On behalf of the entire Hymnary.org team, our thanks.

Representative Text

1 Do you seek a land where there comes no night,
Blessed Beulah land, where the sun shines bright;
Where we walk by faith and not by sight,
Baptized with the Holy Ghost?
Will you be baptized in this faith?
Baptized with the Holy Ghost?
To be free indeed, ’tis the pow’r you need,
Baptized with the Holy Ghost.

2 Will you take him now as your all in all,
Let the self be slain, that that pow’r may fall?
Will you now in faith for the blessing call,
Baptized with the Holy Ghost?
Will you be baptized in this faith?
Baptized with the Holy Ghost?
To be free indeed, ’tis the pow’r you need,
Baptized with the Holy Ghost.

3 ‘Tis the Canaan-land for our weary feet,
With our wand’rings o’er and our rest complete;
Where we dwell with Christ in communion sweet,
Baptized with the Holy Ghost.
Will you be baptized in this faith?
Baptized with the Holy Ghost?
To be free indeed, ’tis the pow’r you need,
Baptized with the Holy Ghost.

4 Yes, we gladly come, blessed Lord, to thee,
From the carnal mind that we may be free;
And we look in faith, for we long to be
Baptized with the Holy Ghost.
Yes, I’ll be baptized in this faith,
Baptized with the Holy Ghost;
To be free indeed, ’tis the pow’r I need,
Baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Author: Mrs. C. H. Morris

Lelia (Mrs. C.H.) Morris (1862-1929) was born in Pennsville, Morgan County, Ohio. When her family moved to Malta on the Muskingum River she and her sister and mother had a millinery shop in McConnelsville. She and her husband Charles H. Morris were active in the Methodist Episcopal Church and at the camp meetings in Sebring and Mt. Vernon. She wrote hymns as she did her housework. Although she became blind at age 52 she continued to write hymns on a 28-foot long blackboard that her family had built for her. She is said to have written 1000 texts and many tunes including "Sweeter as the years go by." Mary Louise VanDyke Go to person page >
