Representative Text

1 Everything sings in the summer,
Birds, and humming bees,
Little brooks laughing for gladness
‘Neath the waving trees.

Refrain:
Everything sings, everything sings,
Over the world rings a chorus gay;
Everything sings, everything sings,
Praise to the Father this Children’s Day.

2 Everything sings in the summer,
“God is love” they say,
Filling the earth with His sunshine,
Blessing us each day. [Refrain]

3 Everything sings in the summer,
So should children too,
Happy that Jesus has called them,
Work for Him to do. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
