Agent for Columbian College, 1845-1848. Corresponding secretary for Southern Baptist Publication Society, 1848-1851. Agent for Richmond College, 1851-1854, 1866-1870. Assistant secretary for Foreign Missions Board, Southern Baptist Convention, 1854-c.1861. Prominent advocate of missions and higher education. Editor, writer, and administrator.
