Representative Text

1 God’s word commands that we go forward,
Though forward means the rolling sea;
But ere we step into the torrent,
Before our feet the waves will flee.

Refrain:
The waves will flee if bravely we go forward,
And we shall walk the way dry-shod;
What though the sea now rolls before us,
Forward go, go forward!

2 The Captain’s voice repeats: “Go forward!”
Although the path is not in sight;
Behind is death and desolation,
On either side the gloom of night. [Refrain]

3 Ye hosts of God, fear not, go forward!
All will be right if you obey;
The waters shall not overflow you,
For God will roll the sea away. [Refrain]

At the age of nineteen he joined the M.E. Church, and a few years later he was granted a license to preach the Gospel, and still later he was regularly ordained by Bishop Merrill. However, Mr. Oatman only serves as a local preacher. For many years he was engaged with his father in the mercantile business at Lumberton… Go to person page >
