Representative Text

1 Hark! Hark! Hark!
Hear the birds so gay,
Singing loud, sweet and clear,
As they float away.
Swift their songs rise in sunny skies,
Praising God, praising God, the Father dear.

Refrain:
Now we’ll march, march, march,
Singing as we go—
Hosanna! to the children’s Friend
Whose love we know;
Now we’ll march, march, march,
Singing as we go—
Hosanna! to the children’s Friend
Whose love we know.

2 Hark! Hark! Hark!
Hear the children tell,
In a sweet song of love,
As their voices swell,
Of the Friend who doth blessings send
From His home, from His home, of light above. [Refrain]

3 Hark! Hark! Hark!
With the joy bells chime,
As we give thanks and sing,
While our hearts keep time;
Glory! be unto God most high,
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! the children’s King. [Refrain]

Author: Lizzie DeArmond

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
