Representative Text

1 Hark! The bells of Heaven ringing,
Softly, gently from afar;
Like the sound of angels singing;
Floating down from star to star;
There’s a soul gone home to glory
And the presence of the King,
There redemption’s sweet old story,
Evermore to tell and sing.

Chorus:
Hark! The bells of Heaven ringing
Sweetly down the starry ways;
Where earth’s sighs give place to singing,
Strife to peace, and pray’r to praise.

2 Hark! The bells of Heaven ringing,
Gladly, grandly from above!
Unto us a message bringing;
Of a triumph born of love;
From his sins another sinner
Turns and seeks the way of God,
Won by Christ, the great soul-winner,
Who the way of Calv’ry trod. [Chorus]

3 Hark! The bells of Heaven ringing!
How they echo in the heart,
Until, silenc’d by their singing,
One by one life’s cares depart;
They are calling, calling, calling—
Voices from the Better Land,
And their music, earthward falling,
All can hear and understand. [Chorus]
