Representative Text

1 Hark, we hear the tidings ring!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Sons of earth, arise and sing!
Alleluia! Praise the Lord!
Lo! what means the glorious strain,
Ringing clear its loud refrain?
Sons of earth, awake! awake!
Angel hosts the tidings break!

Refrain:
Glory be to Christ the King!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
He hath ris’n, awake and sing!
Alleluia! Praise the Lord!

2 Thro’ the courts of Heav’n on high,
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Rings the anthem of the sky,
Alleluia! Praise the Lord!
Let its glorious echoes sound
Thro’ the whole glad earth around,
For the Lord whose praise we sing
Is our own eternal King! [Refrain]

3 Vain were all the pow’r s of death
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Nought availed to stay His breath,
Alleluia! Praise the Lord!
Like a mortal man He lay,
In the tomb at close of day,
But He burst at last the chain
And came forth to life again! [Refrain]

4 As a man He laid Him down,
Alleluia! Alleluia!
But as God He claim’d His crown,
Alleluia! Praise the Lord!
Sons of men, awake and sing!
Glory to the conquering King!
Everlasting praise be given
To the Lord of earth and Heav’n! [Refrain]
