Dear Friend of Hymnary,

As you know, we don't ask for money too often. But we're asking now.

So before you hit the "close" button on this box, please consider a donation to keep Hymnary going.

More than half a million people come here every month -- worship leaders, hymnologists, hymn lovers and more -- people who now have access to the most complete database of North American hymnody on the planet thanks to this site. But keeping all of this afloat does not come without a cost, and we have limited sources of revenue. So if you benefit from Hymnary.org, would you please consider a donation today? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

You can make your tax-deductible contribution by clicking the Donate button below, or you can send a check to Hymnary at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

On behalf of the entire Hymnary team,
Harry Plantinga

Full Text

1. Hear the order of the Captain calling,
time will soon be o’er,
Many soldiers He must have from far and near;
There are souls in sin and darkness,
and for them the cross He bore;
Come, my comrade, now fall in and answer Here!

Refrain
Volunteer, volunteer, answer, Here! here! here!
Quickly speak loud and clear,
I am here! here! here!
’Tis the Captain’s great command,
Quickly step and rally near,
For the battle rages over all the land.

2. See the eager hosts of Satan gath’ring
round on every hand;
For our sons and daughters they are fierce and strong;
To the center, rally! rally!
hear the voice of Christ’s command,
Answer Here! and volunteer to fight the wrong. [Refrain]

3. When we meet for coronation
of the faithful over there,
Shall the Savior, sitting on His judgment throne,
Say, I know you not, deserter,
you are not a rightful heir,
For My lost and hungry ones you left alone. [Refrain]

4. Time for shouting and rejoicing
when the victory is won,
When God’s risen saints are waiting in the air,
But the time is now for action,
and hard fighting must be done,
Ere the roll is called up yonder, over there. [Refrain]
