Representative Text

1 Hear us in Thy love, O Father,
While our pray’rs to heav’n ascend,
May we now hold sweet communion,
Heart to heart with Thee, dear Friend;
Every weakness, Lord, Thou knowest,
In Thy strength we would abide,
Blessed Jesus, draw us nearer,
With Thy fullness satisfied.

2 Soothe and cheer each burdened spirit,
Grant us peace amid earth’s strife,
Guide us till the veil be lifted,
Till our faith is lost in sight.
Light eternal shine within us,
Lead us as Thou deemest best,
May our lives in Thee perfected,
Gain at last the promised rest.

3 Fold us in Thy love, O Father,
Now incline Thy gracious ear,
Praise we bring and adoration,
O descend and meet us here.
Softly speak a word of blessing
To the hearts so truly Thine,
In the secret of Thy Presence
May new glory round us shine.

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
