Representative Text

1 Hold up the Bible, for only there we learn,
Good news for sinners, the gentle word "return;"
Book of salvation, a gift from God above,
Let us ever prize it--the letter of his love.

Chorus:
Hold up the Bible! hold up the Bible!
Hold up the Bible! God's gift from above,
Book of salvation to every nation,
Let us ever prize it--the letter of his love.

2. Hold up the Bible, a lamp to guide our way,
All thro' the journey, with pure and heavenly ray;
Showing the dangers that lurk on every side,
And a mighty stronghold, wherein the soul may hide. [Chorus]

3 Hold up the Bible, with brave and loyal hand,
Guard well the treasure, the hope of this our land;
Let not the scoffer e'er banish from our youth,
Wisdom everlasting--the holy book of truth. [Chorus]

4 Hold up the Bible, there's gold in every line,
Bright gems of promise on all its pages shine;
"Sweeter than honey" the comfort it bestows,
There, in blessed beauty, blooms Sharon's lovely Rose. [Chorus]
