Representative Text

1 Hold up the cross! there the Savior of men
Became our redemption from sin;
Then herald the story again and again,
Of all that dear Savior has been.

Chorus:
Hold up the cross!
Hold up the cross!
The crucified Lord is the hope of the nations;
Hold up the cross of Jesus.

2 Hold up the cross! ‘tis the signet of peace,
The promise of ages fulfilled;
It means a dominion that never shall cease,
The blessing our Father has willed. [Chorus]

3 Hold up the cross! let the people behold,
And know that salvation may be
Abundant and free, to the young and the old,
Yea, all who are willing to see. [Chorus]

4 Hold up the cross! there is no other way
For sinners, by sinning enslaved,
To come from the bondage of darkness to day,
And be everlastingly saved. [Chorus]
