1 I am dreaming tonight of the days gone by
Of my happy childhood years;
And the scenes I recall are both sweet and sad,
And thy move me to smiles and tears.
In my fancy I see each familiar spot,
Just the same as in bright days of yore;
And from all I possess I would gladly part,
To be a child once more.

I’m dreaming tonight, dreaming tonight,
Dreaming of home and mother,
I’m dreaming tonight, dreaming tonight,
For home and mother dear.

2 I am longing tonight to return again
To my happy childhood home;
Just to lay all aside I have lost or won,
Since I left the old place to roam.
I am weary of all that the world can give,
I am worried and sick e’en to death;
I would learn once again at my mother’s knee
My childhood’s simple faith.

I’m longing for home, longing for home,
Longing for home and mother,
I’m longing for home, longing for home,
For home and mother dear.

3 I am going some day to another home,
To a happy home above;
To a mansion prepared in the Father’s house,
For His children redeemed by love.
There the sorrows or earth will have all passed by,
All the mourning and grief will be o’er,
There my Saviour I’ll see and my mother too;
And say, “Good bye,” no more.

“Home, home, Sweet, sweet home,”
I’m going home, going home;
Home to heav’n and mother.
