Representative Text

1 I have watched the sheep astray,
As it wandered day by day,
On the mountain heard its feeble cry;
Oh, the Shepherd’s gentle call,
How it comes to one and all;
Tell me why, then, will you die?

Refrain:
He’s calling now for me,
Calling now for me,
He’s calling now for me,
He is calling now for me,
Calling now for me,
He is calling now for me,
My Savior’s calling now for me.

2 I have watched the woman search
For the gem of priceless worth,
For the piece of silver she had lost;
With her light and broom in hand,
On she goes in every land,
Searching for that which was lost. [Refrain]

3 I have watched the boy depart,
With his proud and anxious heart,
As he left his father’s house to roam;
Then I’ve seen him sitting down,
With the swine upon the ground,
Far away from that old home. [Refrain]

4 Now I see him as he goes,
Clad in worn and tattered clothes,
And forsaken by the world so gay;
With a broken, bleeding heart,
"For my Father’s home I’ll start,"
Now I hear him faintly say. [Refrain]
