The Promised Rest

1 I know there’s a place in the distance somewhere,
For Jesus has promised He would prepare
A home for the faithful, His glories to share,
In a beautiful land bright and fair.
I have friends who have gone to that glorious home,
And are singing with angels around the throne;
So free from all sorrow, where tears never come,
They are dwelling in peace over there.

Refrain:
Oh, when shall I enter that glorious rest,
And sing with the ransom’d the songs of the blest,
And leave all the cares of this dark wilderness,
To sleep on the dear Saviour’s breast?

2 That beautiful home far beyond the blue sky,
Where Jesus the Saviour awaits on high,
Is for you and for me, in the sweet by and by,
When the sorrows of life are all o’er.
The chariot of God with Elijah of old,
Ascended and entered the City of God;
With the ransom’d he shares the enjoyments untold
In the mansions of God evermore. [Refrain]

3 That home to the pilgrim is almost in sight,
The darkness has vanished and all is light;
There thousands of spirits find only delight,
And are shining in robes pure and white.
I know there is rest when life’s journey is thro’,
For all who are striving His will to do;
‘Tis only be faithful, to Jesus be true,
While we battle for God and the right. [Refrain]
