Representative Text

1 I will glory in the cross of Jesus!
It was there He gave His life for me;
Now I’m saved, and all my sins are covered
By the blood He shed on Calvary.

Refrain:
I will glory in the cross of Jesus,
Hallowed by the blood He shed for me;
I have vict’ry over sin,
And a crown of life I’ll win,
By the all-triumphant cross of Jesus.

2 I will glory in the cross of Jesus!
It is more than all the world to me,
For His wondrous love, to me so precious,
In transporting vision there I see. [Refrain]

3 I will glory in the cross of Jesus
Till He bids me here to lay it down,
And ascend to dwell with Him in glory,
There to wear an everlasting crown. [Refrain]

Rufus H. McDaniel was ordained in the Christian church in 1873. He found much joy in church music. He began writing hymns in the 1880's. He wrote, "I feel in my soul that God has something for me to do in brightening the experience of struggling souls. My chief desire is to be a blessing, if possible, to my fellow-men through these hymns and thereby glorify God in the name of his dear son 'whose I am and whom I serve.'"
