Benedict, David. (Norwalk, Connecticut, October 10, 1779--December 5, 1874, Pawtucket, Rhode Island). Converted at the age of twenty, he studied at Brown University, graduating in 1806. After ordination, he served as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, for twenty-five years. He published several volumes of religious history, including History of the Baptists (1813). He compiled Conference Hymns for Social Worship (Providence, 1817). Cf.
