The Secret Place

Representative Text

1. In the secret place I'll hide me,
Safely sheltered 'neath his wing;
In its shadows sweetly resting,
Closely to his side will cling;
Listening for each loving whisper
Of the Spirit's pleading voice,
Have his bidding my best pleasure,
And his way my only choice.

2. With his presence for my refuge,
And his counsels for my guide,
Nothing evil shall befall me
While I thus securely hide,
Tho' around me thousands falling,
I am safe in this retreat;
He has promised his protection,
And my shelter is complete.

3. O his tender care, how precious,
All my needs he doth supply,
And he satisfies each longing
When to this retreat I fly,
In the secret place abiding;
Strength receiving day by day,
Love divine each fear dispelling,
While beneath his wings I stay.

4. Spread thy pinions round and o'er me,
Here I would forever rest;
Draw so near I'll feel the throbbing
Of the great Eternal breast.
With his Spirit in me dwelling,
Simply trusting every word,
By this close communion gaining
Sweet acquaintance with the Lord.
