The acceptable sacrifice

Representative Text

1. In the service of the Master we are waiting
For the promised grace to fall;
We have left the past and all the world's allurements,
At his feet we've laid our all;
He is asking not the sacrifice of temples
Where the poor can have no part;
No, the offering in which the Lord delighteth
Is a pure and contrite heart.

Chorus:
Lord, come down to us in mighty pow'r and cleansing,
Touch with fire each waiting soul;
Give the sacrifice we offer thine anointing
That shall sanctify the whole.

2. From the dying souls in depth of sin about us,
Comes the call to you and me;
We are waiting, but the blessing of the Father,
And the open door to see;
Tho' the word may lead us over moor and mountain,
Or in patience bid us wait,
Yet we know the way the Master bids us follow
Leads to yonder pearly gate. [Chorus]

3. So we bow before the Lord in deep petitions,
And we search our hearts tonight,
Lest we fail to reach the heights that he appointeth,
Or to read the word aright;
For the souls that lie in sin out there beyond us
Are the pearls he bought with blood,
And our mission is to lift them from the darkness
To adorn the throne of God. [Chorus]
