Jesus, Livets rige Kilde

Representative Text

1 Jesus, Livets rige Kilde,
Himlens Ære, Glans og Lyst,
Som din Fader sende vilde
Os til Frelse, Hjælp og Trøst.
Hvorfor vil saa mange sige
Nei til Naadens Himmerige?
Hvad er Verdens Lyst som bedst
Dog imod din Bryllupsfest?

2 Lifligt er det Høitids-Sæde
Ved dit eget Bryllupsbord,
Fred, Retfærdighed og Glæde,
Flyder til os paa dit Ord.
Der er bod for alle Smerter,
Salighed for alle Hjerter,
Der i dig saa inderlig
Liv og Sjæl forlyster sig.

3 Du, som til din Bryllups-Glæde
Naadig kaldte ogsaa mig,
Og anviste mig et Sæde,
Hvor der end er rum hos dig,
Giv mig al Tid dig til Ære,
Mig til Salighed at bære
Sjælens rene Bryllupsdragt,
Som din Aand mig selv har bragt!

4 Lover alle og tilbeder
Den miskundelige Gud,
Som til Himmerig os leder
Ved sin Naades Sendwbud,
Indtil alle Borde fyldes,
Og med Himlens Glans forgyldes,
Naar vor Herre seierrig
Fører Bruden hjem til sig!

Wexels, Wilhelm Andreas. (Copenhagen, Denmark, March 29, 1797--May 14, 1866, Oslo, Norway). Lutheran. After studies in Copenhagen and Christiana (Oslo), became catechist and curate of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Christiana. Preached against the inroads of rationalism, emphasizing the need for spiritual revival. Church historians claim that his ministry was the turning point in the Church of Norway. Failed in his attempt to give Norway a hymnal, but many of his hymns survived. --J. Irving Erickson, DNAH Archives Go to person page >
