Jesus, Lord and Precious Savior

Representative Text

1 Jesus, Lord and precious Saviour,
All my comfort and my joy,
Graciously extend thy favor,
Let thy word my soul employ.

Refrain:
Jesus, come, abide with me,
Let me ever be with thee. A-men.

2 All I do, O let me ever,
Jesus, in thy Name begin;
Give success to my endeavor,
Final victory therein. [Refrain]

3 Let my words and thoughts, O Saviour,
To thy praise and glory tend;
Help me, Lord, that I may gather
Treasures that shall never end. [Refrain]

4 When my days on earth are over,
Let me enter into rest.
Bear me home, O blessèd Saviour,
When to thee it seemeth best. [Refrain]

Amen.

In 1818 he was made Dean of Westeras, and set about the task of editing a revised hymn-book for the whole of Sweden. This task he completed in 1819, and published it as, Den Swenska Psalmboken, af Konungen gillad och stadfästad (The Swedish hymn-book, approved and confirmed by the King). To it he contributed some 150 hymns of his own, besides translations and recasting… Go to person page >
