Hayes, James Martin. (Halifax, Nova Scotia, May 27, 1924-- ). Roman Catholic. St. Mary's University, B.A., 1943; ordination after study at Holy Heart Seminary (Halifax); Angelicum University, Rome, J.C.D., 1957. Pastorates at St. Mary's Basilica, Halifax, 1947-1954, 1963-1965; chancellor of Halifax archdiocese, 1957-1965; auxiliary bishop, 1965-1967; archbishop, 1967-?. While rector of the basilica, he contributed several hymns to The Assumption Hymnal (1964). Later, the demands of his administrative posts left him little time for writing.
