Representative Text

1 Land of freedom, how we love thee!
Love thy hills and plains and streams;
Love the flag that floats above thee,
Radiant in the sunlight’s beams.
Dear to us thy splendid story,
Told far over land and sea;
Proud are we of all thy glory,
Laws, and peace, and liberty.

2 Peoples, from afar this seeing,
Throng from ev’ry clime and race,
Bondage and oppression fleeing,
Longing for thy wealth and peace.
Give to these the great salvation,
Bring them truth and joy and life;
Save from sin and all temptation;
Free from lust and hate and strife.

3 Then this land of song and story
Shall from bonds of sin be free;
Then our flag, the dear “Old Glory,”
Dearer still to all will be.
Then our country’s future ages,
As the years shall take their flight,
Grand will be on hist’ry’s pages,
Till He reigns, whose is the right.
