He Shall Sustain Thee

1 Life may have trial, and sorrow and care,
Burdens too great for thy spirit to bear,
But the sweet promise of Jesus is thine,
“He shall sustain thee,” with power divine.

3 Earth-friends may cheer with their fellowship sweet,
Making life’s pathway with gladness replete,
But there’s a Friend that is dearer than all,

4 When the long shadows foretoken the night,
Lo, in life’s eventide all shall be light!
Praise His dear name with thy last fleeting breath,
