On Baptism

Like Christ our Lord we're buried here

Representative Text

1 Like Christ our Lord we're bary'd here,
To shew that we are dead in sin;
O may our sins no more appear,
To wound or to dishonor him.

2 In this our act we shew his death,
Our conscience here is answer'd too,
We think that we can do no less,
Then give ourselves to him anew.

3 Our dear administrator must
Fulfil his part, the Names must call,
Of Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
A wound indeed if we should fall.

4 Help us O Lord to watch and pray,
Since we profess to love the Lord,
O may we study night and day,
The rules of thy revealed word.

5 Our bodies wash'd in water here,
To shew the fountain of thy blood,
Can save our souls from ev'ry fear,
And bring us safely home to God.

6 This duty suffers no delay,
Those that believe must be baptis'd;
They practis'd so in ancient days,
The word of God must make us wise.
