1 Lord, in Thy kingdom there shall be
No aliens from each other,
But even as he loves himself
Each saint shall love his brother.

2 When in Thy courts below we meet
To mourn our sinful living,
And with united hearts repeat
Confession, creed, thanksgiving:

3 Make us to hear in each sweet word
Thy Holy Spirit calling
To oneness with Thy Church and Thee,
That heavenly bond forestalling.

4 One Baptism and one faith have we,
One Spirit sent to win us,
One Lord, one Father, and one God,
Above, and through, and in us.

5 Never, by schism, or by sin,
May we that union sever,
Till all, to perfect stature grown,
Are one with Thee forever.

Author: Joseph Anstice

Anstice, Joseph , M.A., son of William Anstice of Madeley, Shropshire, born 1808, and educated at Enmore, near Bridgwater, Westminster, and Ch. Church, Oxford, where he gained two English prizes and graduated as a double-first. Subsequently, at the ago of 22, he became Professor of Classical Literature at King's College, London; died at Torquay, Feb. 29, 1836, aged 28. His works include Richard Coeur de Lion, a prize poem, 1828; The Influence of the Roman Conquest upon Literature and the Arts in Rome (Oxford prize Essay); Selections from the Choice Poetry of the Greek Dramatic Writers, translated into English Verse, 1832, &c. Lord, in Thy kingdom there shall be. J. Anstice. [Unity.] Privately printed in his posthumous Hymns, 1836, in 5 stanzas of 4 lines. It is based on the Epistle for the 17th Sunday after Trinity, Eph. iv. In 1841 it was included in The Child's Christian Year, from whence it passed into a few collections, including Kennedy, 1863, where it is expanded into 3 stanzas of 8 lines by the addition of a doxology.
