Representative Text

1 My heart is sad and weary,
My way is dark and dreary;
O quench my ceaseless longings
With Thy rich grace and love;
With Thine own arm uphold me,
And to Thy breast enfold me;
O sanctify me wholly,
And bring me safe above.

2 My sky is over-clouded,
My path with shadows shrouded;
Dispel the mocking phantoms,
And drive away the gloom;
A balm for every sorrow
From Thee I fain would borrow;
For Thee my soul is longing,
And waits to make Thee room.

3 From sin Thou canst deliver,
And break its bonds forever;
O let me never wander
And grieve Thee, I implore;
Unholy thoughts subduing,
My sinful heart renewing,
O guide me to Thy glory,
And bless me evermore.
