1 Naar min Tid og Stund er forhaand,
Ak jeg min Vei skal fare,
herre Jesu Christ, min Frelsermand,
Du vil mig da bevare;
Udi din Haand befaler jeg
Min Sjæl, undfald du ikke mig,
Frels mig fra Dødens Snare!

2 Min Synd mig Drøvelse stor paafør',
Samvittigheds gloende Pile
Som Havets Sand mangfoldig er,
Dog vil jeg ikke fortvivle,
Men tænke trolig paa din Død,
Herre Christ, og dine Saar saa rød',
Paa dem, saa vil jeg hvile.

3 Dit Legems Lem er jeg uden Tvivl,
Det er min Hjertens Glæde,
Fra dig jeg ingenlunde skilles vil,
Var end min Død tilstede;
Om jeg end dør, da dør jeg dig;
Det evige Liv saa vilde du mig,
Herre, ved din Død berede.

4 Thi du af Døde opstanden est,
I Graven skal jeg ei blive,
Din Himmelfart mig trOster mest,
Og kan Kødsfrygt fordrive;
Og hvor du est, da kommer jeg did,
At leve hos dig til evig Tid
Thi dør jeg gladeig, Amen!

Author: Nikolaus Herman

Herman, Nicolaus, is always associated with Joachimsthal in Bohemia, just over the mountains from Saxony. The town was not of importance till the mines began to be extensively worked about 1516. Whether Herman was a native of this place is not known, but he was apparently there in 1518, and was certainly in office there in 1524. For many years he held the post of Master in the Latin School, and Cantor or Organist and Choirmaster in the church. Towards the end of his life he suffered greatly from gout, and had to resign even his post as Cantor a number of years before his death. He died at Joachimsthal, May 3, 1561. (Koch, i. 390-398; Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie, xii. 186-188, &c.) He was a great friend and helper of J. Mathesius (q.v.)… Go to person page >
