Representative Text

1 Not where the work is the lightest,
Jesus may call thee to go,
Not where the yield is the greatest,
Jesus may ask thee to sow;
But where the fields are so barren,
Nought that is fruit can be found,
Digging ‘mid weeds, and the briers,
Painfully tilling the ground.

Refrain:
Oh, then, to hear when he calls thee!
Listening, all shall be plain,
Oh, then, to go where he bids thee!
Little, or much be the gain.

2 Not by the side of the reapers
Jesus may call thee today,
Not where the workmen are busy
Binding the sheaves far away;
But with the gleaners so patient,
Gath’ring the grains one by one,
Bringing to Jesus the handful,
Hearing the joyful “well done.” [Refrain]
