Now from my bed of sleep I rise

Representative Text

1 Now from my bed of sleep I rise,
My voice to God I raise;
This is my morning sacrifice:
To sing my maker's praise.

2 His blessed angels kept my guard!
While sleeping here I lay;
And by the mercies of my Lord,
I see another day.

3 The night is fled and darkness gone,
And I awake to see
The day approach with heav'nly dawn,
And blessings unto me.

4 While many of my fellow men,
Lay on their dying bed!
And thus oppress'd with mortal pain,
Are number'd with the dead.

5 But I was spar'd and truly blest,
What grade to me was shown!
I lay secure in peace to rest
To see the rising Sun.
