1 O day of sacred rest, We welcome thee anew; Lord ,make these moments blest, Send Thy refreshing dew; From fleeting pleasures and delights, I soar to reach immortal heights, I soar to reach immortal heights. 2 To heav'n our prayers we send, O Son of God most high; Thy scepter, Lord, extend, As humbly we draw nigh; May sinful hearts now contrite be, Teach all to know and follow Thee, Teach all to know and follow Thee. 3 Descend, celestial Dove, With all Thy quick'ning pow'rs; Disclose a Saviour's love, And bless the sacred hours: Then shall my soul new life obtain, Nor Sabbaths be enjoyed in vain, Nor Sabbaths be enjoyd in vain.
Hayward. Under this name the hymn "Welcome, delightful morn" [Sunday Morning), was given in Dobell's New Selection, 1806, No. 548, in 3 stanzas of 6 lines, and has been repeated in a few American hymnals, including Hymns of the Faith, N.Y., 1887, and others.
