Willmarth, James W., was born in Paris, where his father laboured as a Baptist minister, Dec. 23, 1835. He entered the American Baptist ministry in 1860. His hymn "O Father, Lord of earth and heaven" (Holy Baptism ) was written in 1867, in 6 stanzas of 4 lines. It was used at a public baptism at Wakefield, Massachusetts, June 30, 1867.
