O glorious rose fair blooming,
From fragile stem hath sprung!
As men of old were singing,
From Jesse came a son,
When bloomed this radiant flower
Amid the snows of winter,
Close at the midnight hour.

That rose with fragrance laden,
Isaiah had in mind;
Mary, the holy maiden,
Should give to all mankind.
Thro' God's eternal pow'r
She bore the infant Saviour,
Close at the midnight hour.
