Representative Text

1 O Holy Word, with rev’rent hands
I turn thy sacred pages o’er;
Thy truths to search, as God commands,
Mid all Thy vast unfathomed store.

2 O Holy Word of love divine,
Thy light shall guide me in the way;
And thro’ life’s darkest night shall shine,
To lead me into perfect day.

3 Dear messenger of wondrous grace,
Thy precepts in my heart I hide;
The law of love in Thee I trace,
And in Thy promises confide.

4 When pain and sorrow linger near,
Thou tellest of a Saviour’s care;
Thou hast a balm for ev’ry fear,
A hope for ev’ry earnest prayer.

5 One page alone is more to me,
Than all of human life beside;
For there I learn, to set me free
A Saviour in my stead hath died.
