1 O, hvor salig er I dog, I Fromme,
Som fik Lv til Gud i Fred at komme,
Og er hjemgangne
Fra al Nød, os endnu holder fangne!

2 Vi maa her som i et Fængsel leve,
Og i Sorg og Frygt og Angest svæve,
Hvad her kan falde,
Er kun Aandsfortærelse at kalde.

3 I faa hvile nu i eders Kammer
Vel forvaret for al Verdens Jammer,
Nu ingen Smerte
Tager Freden bort fra eders Hjerte.

4 Kristus tørrer af al eders Taare;
I har fundet, vi maa længes saare,
I faa at høre,
Hvad ei sunget er for Nogens Øre.

5 Ak, hvo vilde saa ei gjerne blunde
Bort fra alle Verdens Sørgestunde!
Hvo vil ei gjerne
Dø og drage til det lyse Fjerne!

6 Kom, o Kristus, kom, os fra at spende,

Dach, Simon, son of Simon Dach, interpreter to the Court of Justice at Memel, Prussia, was born at Memel, July 29,1605. He attended the Cathedral school at Königsberg, the Town school at Wittenberg, and the Gymnasium at Magdeburg. In 1626 he returned to Königsberg, where, after studying philosophy and theology at the University, he for some time acted as a private tutor. In 1633 he was appointed assistant in the Cathedral school, and in 1636 Conrector. He then, in 1639, became Professor of Poetry in the University, was five times Dean of the Philosophical Faculty, and in 1656-57 Rector of the University. Magnus Brostrup Landstad (born 7 October 1802 in Måsøy, Norway and died 8 October 1880 in Kristiania) was a Norwegian minister, psalmist and poet who published the first collection of authentic Norwegian traditional ballads in 1853. This work was criticized for unscientific methods, but today it is commonly accepted that he contributed significantly to the preservation of the traditional ballads. Landstad lived with his father Hans Landstad (1771–1838) who was also a minister, first in 1806 to Øksnes, to Vinje in 1811 and to Seljord in 1819. He took a theological degree (cand. theol) in 1827, and worked after that as the resident chaplain in Gausdal for six years.
