O Jesus Dear! O Savior Mild!

Representative Text

1 O Jesus dear! O Savior mild!
Make Thou of me Thy loving child,
Thy blessed name revering!
Remove what Adam's is and mine,
And open wide to what is Thine,
My heart, my eyes,and hearing.

2 Within my heart, O Lord, inspire
Constraining love and holy fire,
That it for Thee be burning!
Oh, clear mine eyes to see Thy light
That shineth with a glory bright,
For which my soul is yearning.

3 May I, O Shepherd, hear Thy voice
That moves Thy children to rejoice
And gives them joy for sadness.
My heart Thy covenant will keep,
Despite the world and sorrow deep,
And taste Thy lasting gladness.
