Representative Text

1 O pilgrim thro’ a desert drear,
How dark and lone our way,
Till, gently falling on the ear,
We hear a sweet voice say:

Refrain:
I am the light,
I am the light;
He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness,
shall not walk in darkness,
but shall have the light of life,
shall have the light of life.

2 Tho’ we must walk by faith alone,
And cannot walk by sight,
Yet, trusting as the days go on,
Our path is ever bright. [Refrain]

3 Tho’ clouds may rise, and storms may chill,
Yet, beaming far above,
The eye of faith discerneth still
The light of perfect love. [Refrain]

4 The sun will shine, the storm pass o’er,
The darkness flee away;
The light is shining more and more,
Unto the perfect day. [Refrain]

5 O wondrous light, thy cheering ray
Dispels our deepest gloom,
Transforms the darkness into day,
And lights the silent tomb. [Refrain]
