O se, hvor lifligt det dog er

Representative Text

1 O se, hvor lifligt det dog er,
At Brødre sommen bygge,
Og have ret hverandre kjær
Og fremme fælles Lykke!
Som lægekraft af Balsam gaar,
Af Broderenighed saa faar
Et Folk sin rette Styrke.

2 Som Duggen giver Frugtbarhed,
Naar den fra Himlen falder,
Saaledes from Samdrægtighed
Et Folkeliv fremkalder,
Hvor Kraft, Velsignelse og Lyst
Og Alt, hvad glæde kan et Bryst,
I Raad og Daad vil spores.

This task he completed in 1819, and published it as, Den Swenska Psalmboken, af Konungen gillad och stadfästad (The Swedish hymn-book, approved and confirmed by the King). Wexels, Wilhelm Andreas. (Copenhagen, Denmark, March 29, 1797--May 14, 1866, Oslo, Norway). Lutheran. After studies in Copenhagen and Christiana (Oslo), became catechist and curate of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Christiana. Preached against the inroads of rationalism, emphasizing the need for spiritual revival. Church historians claim that his ministry was the turning point in the Church of Norway. Failed in his attempt to give Norway a hymnal, but many of his hymns survived. --J. Irving Erickson, DNAH Archives Go to person page >
