The joyful strain that filled the sky so bright,
When angels came thro’ Heaven’s starry ways,
Good news to bring one holy night.

Sing the story, blessèd story,
Ever sweet and true;
"Christ the loving heav’nly Savior
Comes this day to you."
Sing the story angels told,
Speeding down from gates of gold
Sing the story, Christ from glory:
All the world must know.

2 Thro’ stillness deep, the glad exultant lay
Floats down once more our hearts to calm and cheer,
Rejoice, O earth! although He wears no crown,
A king enthroned, the Lord is here. [Refrain]

Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
