Often I have wandered in the dark

Representative Text

1 Often I have wandered in the dark ways of sin,
Seeking for a pleasure that I e’er failed to win;
Weary of my straying now at last I have seen
That God’s way is the best way, is the best way for me.

Refrain:
God’s way is the best way, is the best way for me!
God’s day is the best day, is the best day for me!
Thro’ all of life’s way, my glad heart can say:
God’s way is the best way, is the best way for me!

2 When the shadows gathered o’er the way that he led,
When the clouds were dark’ning in the sky overhead,
Then his glory changed them to a fir pillar red,
And God’s way was the best way, was the best way for me. [Refrain]

3 So I walk in gladness all along life’s dim way;
My Lord still is leading, ne’er from him will I stray;
God’s will now has triumphed and my glad heart can say,
That God’s way is the best way, is the best way for me. [Refrain]

4 Lost one, blindly wand’ring, wheresoever you stray,
Let Christ, the Good Shepherd, lead you out into day;
Let him take and change you, till you full heart can say,
That God’s way is the best way, is the best way for me. [Refrain]
