Representative Text

1 Once my heart was full of sorrow,
And my spirit bowed with grief,
Nightly longed I for the morrow,
But it brought me no relief.

Refrain:
Glory be to Christ, my Savior,
He has set my spirit free;
Now I’m resting in His favor,
He is more than life to me.

2 Sin with cruel fetters bound me,
Vainly sought I for release,
Till the precious Savior found me,
Bringing hope and joy and peace. [Refrain]

3 Night has faded into morning,
Sin and sorrow flown away,
Glorious light my soul adorning,
Bids me praise Him all the day. [Refrain]

4 All the chains of sin are broken,
And my soul’s at liberty,
And I know it by this token—
He is more than life to me. [Refrain]
